What Are Your Symptoms?

Allergies

According to "The American Chiropractor," chiropractic care is not a direct form of treatment for allergies. However, regular adjustments help boost your immune system. A better-functioning immune system decreases your chance of allergy-related illnesses such as sinus infections. Chiropractic care is also designed to allow your body to heal itself from diseases. Acupuncture has been utilized to minimize allergy symptoms.

Arthritis

"While there are various types of arthritis, the most common type occurring in the spine is called osteoarthritis.
With few exceptions people with degenerative osteoarthritis find chiropractic adjustments a great help in relieving their symptoms and improving their overall body movement."

Asthma

Chiropractic health care in our office, with its unique comprehensive approach, is able to offer positive benefit to a variety of conditions and ailments. In the case of allergies and asthma, these “hypersensitivity conditions” may respond well to therapy designed to normalize the body’s flow of nerve signals

While chiropractic treatment is often sought after for back pain, many medical professionals believe that chiropractic care can be used to improve symptoms related to various disorders and diseases. Improving nervous system functioning can help to increase overall well-being and promote healthy breathing. Acupuncture has helped reduce symptoms associated with asthma.

Back / Neck / Leg Pain

Neck pain can have a significant effect on the quality of your life and your ability to get on with
daily activities. Neck pain is a common cause of discomfort and disability. It is estimated that more
than one-fifth of Canadians may be experiencing neck pain at any time.

  Back Pain from Pregnancy

Chiropractic care can provide relief for some pregnancy related discomfort and conditions. Chiropractic treatment uses various techniques to provide optimal movement of your spine and to help treat any muscular pain or discomfort. Please ask your chiropractor for tips on proper back exercises and nutrition to help ensure you have a comfortable and healthy pregnancy.

  Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is pressure on the median nerve -- the nerve in the wrist that supplies feeling and movement to parts of the hand. It can lead to numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle damage in the hand and fingers.
The main symptom of Carpal tunnel syndrome is intermittent numbness of the thumb, index, long and radial half of the ring finger. The numbness often occurs at night, with the hypothesis that the wrists are held flexed during sleep. Other Symptoms also include but not limited too;

  • Numbness or tingling in the thumb and next two or three fingers of one or both hands
  • Numbness or tingling of the palm of the hand
  • Pain extending to the elbow
  • Pain in wrist or hand in one or both hands
  • Problems with fine finger movements (coordination) in one or both hands
  • Wasting away of the muscle under the thumb (in advanced or long-term cases)
  • Weak grip or difficulty carrying bags (a common complaint)
  • Weakness in one or both hands
  Digestive Disturbances

All diseases that pertain to the gastrointestinal tract are labelled as digestive diseases. This includes diseases of the esophagus, stomach, first, second, and third part of the duodenum, jejunum, ileum, the ileo-cecal complex, large intestine (ascending, transverse, and descending colon), sigmoid colon, and rectum.

  Dizziness

Dizziness refers to an impairment in spatial perception and stability. The term is somewhat imprecise. It can be used to mean vertigo, presyncope, disequilibrium, or a non-specific feeling such as giddiness or foolishness

Ear Infection / Pain

Many chiropractors believe that there is a strong link between the birthing process and recurrent ear infection, also known as otitis media. During the birthing process, cervical (neck) vertebrae can become misaligned, disrupting nerve function, which can affect the eustachian tube. This may lead to fluid buildup in the middle ear and cause otitis media.
Antibiotics, the usual treatment, are not always effective and may even lead to a recurrence of ear infections. For nearly 100 years, the chiropractic profession has claimed that ear and other upper respiratory infections respond favorably to chiropractic adjustments.
A promising study published in the Journal of Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics now indicates that there is a strong correlation between chiropractic adjustments and the resolution of ear infections. 332 children with chronic ear infections participated in the study. Each child, ranging in age from 27 days to 5 years, was given a series of chiropractic adjustments. The results show that close to 80% of the children did not experience another ear infection within the six-month period following their initial visits. The six-month period included maintenance treatments every four to six weeks. Joan M. Fallon, D.C., the author of the study and the chiropractor who treated the children in the study, states that this pilot study can serve as a starting point from which the chiropractic profession can begin to examine its role in the treatment of children with chronic ear infections. She asserts that large-scale clinical trials need to be undertaken in the field.

  Fatigue / Weakness

Weakness is a symptom represented, medically, by a number of different conditions, including: lack of muscle strength, malaise, dizziness, or fatigue. The causes are many and can be divided into conditions that have true or perceived muscle weakness. True muscle weakness is a primary symptom of a variety of skeletal muscle diseases, including muscular dystrophy and inflammatory myopathy. It occurs in neuromuscular junctiondisorders, such as myasthenia gravis.

  Infantile Colic

All babies get fussy sometimes, but not all have colic. It may be colic if

  • Your baby cries for more than 3 hours on at least three occasions a week, but is otherwise healthy.
  • Your baby kicks a lot, pulls their legs up close, and makes tight fists.
  • Your baby's tummy seems hard, and the baby burps and passes gas often.
  • The crying sounds like your baby is in great pain.
  • Your baby spits up frequently after feeding.
  • Acupuncture has helped reduce symptoms associated with asthma.
  Knee Pain:
  • You cannot bear weight on your knee
  • You have severe pain, even when not bearing weight
  • Your knee buckles, clicks, or locks
  • Your knee is deformed or misshapen
  • You have a fever, redness or warmth around the knee, or significant swelling
  • You have pain, swelling, numbness, tingling, or bluish discoloration in the calf below the sore knee

Headaches / Migraines

"Several well-designed trials support the effectiveness of spinal manipulation therapy in the treatment of migraine headaches.
In one study, for example, including 127 people with migraine headaches, 22% of those who received chiropractic manipulation reported more than a 90% reduction of migraines and 49% reported a significant reduction of the intensity of each episode.
In another study, 218 individuals with migraine headaches were randomly assigned to receive spinal manipulation, a daily medication (amitryptiline—a drug used to prevent pain in chronic conditions such as migraine headache), or a combination of both. Spinal manipulation was as effective as the medication and had fewer side effects. There was no added benefit to combining the two therapies.
In addition, a review article evaluating nine studies that tested spinal manipulative therapy for tension or migraine headaches concluded that this chiropractic technique is comparable to medications used to try to prevent either of these two types of headaches."

  Numbness / Tingling

Numbness and tingling are abnormal sensations that can occur anywhere in your body, but are often felt in your fingers, hands, feet, arms, or legs.

  Pinched Nerve

When a nerve is irritated or pinched -- by either a bone spur or a part of the intervertebral disc -- it causes problems in the nerve and the nerve does not work quite right. This shows up as weakness in the muscles the nerve goes to, numbness in the skin that the nerve goes to and pain where the nerve travels.

  Poor Posture

Poor posture is the posture that results from certain muscles tightening up or shortening while others lengthen and become weak which often occurs as a result of one’s daily activities.  Risk factors for poor posture also include psychosocial factors such as job stress and strain. Workers who have higher job stress are more likely to develop neck and shoulder symptoms.

  PMS

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) (also called PMT or premenstrual tension) is a collection of physical and emotional symptoms related to a woman's menstrual cycle.

  Sciatica and Leg Pain

Sciatica refers to pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg. It is caused by injury to or pressure on the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is a symptom of another medical problem, not a medical condition on its own.

  Seizures

The outward effect can be as dramatic as a wild thrashing movement (tonic-clonic seizure) or as mild as a brief loss of awareness. It can manifest as an alteration in mental state,  tonic or clonic movements, convulsions, and various other psychic symptoms.
